For me, art is a way to process and describe the human experience.  We are body, soul and spirit and I seek to explore these dimensions together, allowing visible and invisible aspects of life to be considered simultaneously. Fascinated by change, I enjoy using unorthodox techniques and materials to draw parallels between the creative journey and the life experiences that shape us as humans.

On a freshly primed board I explore physical form.  Expressions, postures and gestures capture the emotion of the soul which I amplify through process and material.  I tape over small sections before allowing the rest to be swept away in a wash of gesso.  I repeat the process and soon the board is layered with so many versions of itself that I lose track.  On removing the tape, fragments from each layer are allowed to find their place in the final portrait which I paint to completion; a person shaped by time and process, losing and gaining qualities to become who they are.  I reclaim discarded boards, scraping old paintings back but allowing fragments from previous layers to remain and become the foundation on which the new is formed.

I look for God as I ponder our ever changing state - where is he in these defining moments?  His eternal, unchanging presence brings hope and stability in the form of gold leaf and his gentle love holds us through even the most painful of losses or transitions as his dove rests faithfully nearby.
