Specialising in drawing and painting I work in a variety of materials choosing medium and method for the qualities they offer and what can be expressed by their joining together. My work celebrates the vibrancy of oils, the ethereal qualities of white ink and tracing paper, the mundane and transitory nature of cardboard and the echo of redemption in recycled materials.
Fascinated by change, I often use unorthodox techniques and materials to draw parallels between the creative journey and the life experiences that shape us as humans; layers or fragments of debris generated from the creation of one artwork are gathered, reshaped and combined to create something new. My work is as much about the process as it is the final outcome. Recognising humanity as a place where visible and invisible worlds collide I’m as keen to explore the emotional and spiritual aspects of life as I am physical form with my work often bringing thoughts of God to the conversation.
Since graduating from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2011 I’ve worked privately to develop my skills and artistic language further. I have experience teaching art, running creative workshops, offering artistic mentorship, organising exhibitions and mural painting. I returned to Orkney in 2020 where I now balance raising my young family and creating work in my home studio full time.
